What is the Math Emporium?
Emporium sections use the HyFlex modality to allow students to either attend on-campus in our Emporium classroom or online in our Zoom classroom. Students can switch between these modes throughout the semester, but as a synchronous course please be aware that attendance during the scheduled class time in mandatory.
In an Emporium section, students have the ability to complete their transfer level math courses in a personalized mode.
Students will:
- Work at their own pace through video lectures, homework sets and labs.
- Ask for help as needed from their instructor or an instructional assistant.
- Decide when they are ready to take a test within a flexible window.
- Demonstrate understanding of a certain percentage of the material before moving on to the next chapter.
- No longer just struggle to get by, but will build a stronger foundation for their future material.
- Have flexibility in when they complete the course: early, on time, or the following semester.
What kind of student excels in the Emporium Model?
- Student who attend every class day.
- Students who work diligently on material both in class and outside of class.
- Students who construct a good working relationship with their instructor and instructional assistants.
- Students who take full advantage of all support resources available online, in-class and on campus.
- Students who are committed to learning.
